Grintovec Summit Hike via Kokrsko Sedlo

A demanding but rewarding day hike gaining 1,700 m from the V Koncu trailhead to Grintovec (2,558 m), the highest peak in the Kamnik–Savinja Alps. The route climbs through pre-dawn forest, opens onto dramatic alpine scree, and breaks at the mountain hut on Kokrsko Sedlo for breakfast and lunch. The drive home ends with a short detour to the spectacular Kamniška Bistrica gorge.

A welcome stop at the hut on Kokrsko Sedlo for hot coffee and breakfast before the final push to the summit. It was bitterly cold, so we added every warm layer we had. Note: this hike is long but non-technical — no helmet or via-ferrata gear needed.

The summit of Grintovec at 2558 m — the highest point in the Kamnik–Savinja Alps. Cloud and fog kept visibility low and the wind cut through everything, so we didn't linger. The summit marker is a satisfying reward after the long climb.

A worthwhile stop on the drive home to see the Kamniška Bistrica soteska — a narrow gorge where the river has carved deep, dark korita (potholes) into the limestone. It's a short walk from the parking, but peering down into the shadowy chasm is a striking contrast to the open alpine world you've jus
